Lunch at Miller and Carter.

Hello all, I thought since I’ve slacked so bad on my blog, I will catch up with approximately one hundred posts just so you all can be assured that I am in fact, alive. I say I’ve been busy, I have but I have also got to have some fun filled weekends in the haze of the busy days and long nights.

For my Mothers 51st birthday on the 14th, I decided to treat her to a special lunch out, often my mother is the one who treats me, takes care of me and takes me out for lunch or a coffee trip, so I thought for a change, I’d do the treating. I booked into a local steakhouse and arranged to meet with my Mum on the Saturday morning following an eyelash appointment.

True to form, we had a browse of the shops and arrived earlier than expected for lunch – we were actually locked out. I knew we should have had a fly cup before headed, damn. Anyway, a short walk after, we were allowed access and greeted by friendly staff members who took our coats and had us seated at a window table.

What was best, the wine came fast, just what we needed to wind down and chill out on a Saturday with. My Mum is my best friend so most things we do together and I like it that way. We shortly ordered mains – I opted for a steak burger and Mum went with schnitzel. Both immediately impressed with the food and the service, I knew my Mum was feeling good and that is exactly how I wanted her birthday to be. A day just for Mum to feel loved and appreciated as unfortunately, often we forget to say how much we love our family and appreciate them. There is no excuse frankly, but all too often we take those we hold close for granted.

Since becoming a Mother myself, I am determined to treat life with more gratitude, be more sure of my surroundings and try to be more focused on those close. Time is short and life can pass all too quickly. I think taking time out to enjoy and appreciate those we love is the most important gift you can give to someone as after all time is precious. Anyway, enough soppiness. Following our mains we were kindly offered the dessert menu which we glazed over with awe but truthfully couldn’t handle as we had full tummies from our mains and were patiently waiting our daily flat white.

Much to my surprise, and Mum’s for that matter, our lovely waitress very kindly returned with a Birthday profiterole plate for my Mum, complete with chocolate sauce spelling out ‘Happy Birthday’ – a lovely gesture and only added to the excellent service which we had received. My mum was delighted if slightly embarrassed and I was just glad to see her smile so widely, a lovely treat and proves that the little things go a long way. Miller and Carter , I will always look upon this trip out fondly and will definitely return in the near further.

Euan?…it is my Birthday soon.. hint, hint.

After lunch we met with my sister and went for a further browse before calling it a day and grabbing our long sought after coffees. It’s pumpkin spice season after all. I headed home early and left my Mum and Sister behind so that I could spend time with my own family, soon after arriving home we all snuggled up and had a rare old snooze, just what was needed after a long day touring the town and socialising. The older I become, the more unable I am to cope with long periods of social affairs, the days of going out and probably not even coming home for a day at a time due to having too much fun partying with friends are truly over – give me family naps and 9pm bed times any day.

As I finish up my post my eyes are escaping to the back of my head, true to form before 10pm. These 5am starts, long days on your feet and Mother duties really take toll. This girl needs a magic face serum, some anti ageing pills and oh, how about energy? What is that? Ashamedly, I can’t even stay up and have a wee gin with my Husband – he is probably rolling his eyes in the next room at my poor social abilities yet again. Anyway, not to pass my internal curfew, I am off to catch some sleep. Your girl has a hot chocolate date with her Mum tomorrow, better catch some beauty sleep.

Eleanor’s holiday closet.

As we approach holiday season and count down the days until we set off on our first adventure as a family of three, you can imagine the excitement and the hype.. and nerves, that are flying around the household. It is like Christmas all over again, only with the added benefit of a wee break to the sun.

Now, one thing that is getting me super excited for the holiday, not just the idea of some vitamin D and a spell of t-shirt weather but the holiday packing. I have been working away on Eleanor’s Summer wardrobe and picking up holiday bits and bobs as I’ve been on my travels.

As a bit of a fashionista myself with a love for all things girly and sparkly, I can’t not share my favourite pieces of holiday clothing for Eleanor. I can’t wait to see her in some of the wee dresses and her little sun hat. Too cute, though I’m sure with a seven month old, nothing is destined to stay on long. Especially with meal times, often these days a meal time requires a stripping off and full change of clothes, some days even a bath. Ahem, how do babies get food absolutely every where, by the way? I am sure the energy provider loves us with all of the additional washes and hot water usage. .

As I have said, I’m going to share some of my favourite pieces that I have picked up from various stores and online markets. Baby girl shopping is simply irresistible, so many adorable pieces, especially for the Summer.  I am the first to admit that I have no self control when it comes to shopping and treats, especially not for my baby.

I favour what I call a pay day treat, each pay day that comes round I go out and pick up a treat for Eleanor. It is never much, but I always choose a dress or a wee cardigan.. you know, something pretty from my favourite baby store, Next. It makes me feel good to be able to go out and pick her up a treat at the beginning of each month. I think this is a ritual that will stick.

I’m a little jealous of some of the collections I’ve picked up for Eleanor, if I could fit into the dresses, you bet I would! So much gorgeous colour and quality pieces. Below, I will snap shot my favourite items and tag the store which they were purchased. Most purchases have not exceeded £15 and I have sourced many budget buys.

With a maternity wage and a pending Wedding to pay up, I am all for bargain over luxury. I mean, the most we get out of clothes are three months with the rate Eleanor grows right now so I don’t feel going all out and buying expensive baby clothing is necessary.  There is such a wide range of High Street baby clothing that is inexpensive and yet stylish, I love to snap up any pieces that I find pretty as soon as I see them. I hope you enjoy this little post and it gets you feeling in the mood for Summer.

As you can see, I’ve got several different styles and items to get packing. Along side this I do have a selection of baby grows, t shirts, leggings and a variety of other clothing pieces. I’ve only chosen to share my favourite items. Much of the holiday wardrobe is lightweight but still covers Eleanor up well to avoid any sun damage. We have picked up a stroller with sun protection and a light fabric and have plenty of products to aid with keeping Eleanor comfortable and cool.

Now that we are ready to get the suitcase out and get packed the reality hits, our first family trip and Euans 30th birthday. I feel some time in a new setting with new scenery will mark a milestone birthday and the end of maternity leave pretty well. I know it won’t all be fun and games, there will be challenges to overcome but I’m hopeful with the time that we have, we can make the most of it and make happy family memories.

Certain not to miss any of these little moments, I’ve got my digital camera and the go pro at the ready. I don’t plan to be active on social media during our time away as a family but as soon as we return, I will share all the details with you.

Happy Spring x

Home is where the heart is. Valentine fantasies.

Good afternoon guys! Okay, I admit that the title of this post may seem misleading, I best correct myself before setting you readers up for disappointment. This is no fifty shades of grey theme, you can keep your pants on. I am keeping things clean and talking about fantasies that as a family we hold for the future.

It is shrove Tuesday, pancake day as it is better known. A day to celebrate and eat my favourite food and just to mix things up, I recieved a Valentine bouquet from Euan a day early. With my favourite food day now combined with Valentins, I can only assume that this ought to be a good day.

I have woke on this day to some beautiful flowers delivered and a day is planned out with the main ladies in my life, my baby, my Mother and my sister. Galentines! With that in mind, I am feeling optimistic, high on love and plan to share with you bunch some recent topics of discussion in our household. Home is where the heart is.

Opportunities, higher wages, better quality of living, the great outdoors..we all strive and crave more. I mean, there has to be more to life than a 9-5 dead end job and British weather. Surely? There has to be a key to finding a happy work/life balance all while finding peace of mind too?

We aim to find a place to reside that will bring us better prospects to raise a family and a place we can live minimally with access to a large variety of activities and opportunities. I would love to have three children one day, i grew up in a busy household and want to bring that chaos into a family of my own. A large family would mean a big move and many changes so that our children would have the best start that we can offer.

We hope to find a location with good education, health benefits and a healthy lifestyle, vitamin D on the occasion value for money and homes that we can only dream of. The grass isn’t always greener, no but in our circumstance,  we have nothing to lose in all honesty.

We dont seek much, nor do we have crazy expectations, we just crave a change that will bring something more, I don’t think it is wrong to want better and to do well and I think a fresh start would be welcome. I think we all want to start over from time to time. This time, we are willing to work to make that happen. No more pipe dreams.

During recent talks myself and Euan have decided that we wish to move away from home to raise our family. It’s been done many times by people in both better and worse circumstances and ther are plenty of success stories with regards to big moves with many folks saying once leaving home and finding settlement elsewhere, they have never looked back.

A move of any accord with a family is no small task, the way we see it, go big or go home. We have much research to do in regards to finding the right place for us to settle and see our children through school but with the information that is out there and the help available online, I’m certain we can come to an informed decision with location and area planning.

Once we are set with a base, we can then further explore our options and expenses. We can get estimates for the money we require to save and work our butt’s off to make life happen. I certainly feel it is time for big changes and a new climate. There is so much to life and this world away from this City.

As a family, we want and encourage new adventure, we want to live our best life together. I am sure all this planning and saving will be no easy task and bring plenty stress but together with the hopes of a better future in mind for ourselves and our family, we can achieve anything we wish.

Persevering and patience is key so it is a good job that I have left Euan at hand to do all the dirty work and the researching. I don’t cope so well with being patient, I only end up frustrated and upset. We don’t have time for that with all the planning and prep that must be done. I’ll simply take a back seat and advise on this occasion, the easy ride. No pun intended.

The Valentines hype has had us in a wee love bubble and brought us to some thoughts and new hopes. We have been thinking about our future and all that family life will hold, it has us both feeling motivated and excited which has led to this post and thought sharing with you all. We dont know where will be be five years from now but we have a plan to find a new place to call home and claim residence for the benefit of a happy family life. After all, family is the most important gift and to grow together with an ever flourishing relationship is what really matters. Happy Valentines everybody.

To you and yours, love always wins.

Keren.
